CLEO Short Courses Do Not Disappoint leading up to technical program

CLEO: 2014 has just gotten off to a great start with a number of short courses on a wide range of hot topics including ultrafast optics, nonlinear optics, metamaterials and nanophotonics. I was really excited about this event for so many reasons- all of which I’m not sure can fit in this one post.

Exhibit and Power Lunch

A good thing about the exhibit is that you don’t have to submit and wait for a quote. It is simply enough to speak to a company representative to get an approximate idea about the prices, or sometimes even exact value. Walking around the exhibit, I’ve managed to get some things done, such as looking up an upgrade to our Coherent OPO and figuring out the pricing for certain items that I meant to check long time ago, always saving it for later.

THz imaging: Mind the gap!

This year (as with every year) I will be interested to see how near (or far) the THz community is from acheiving the stand-off imaging distance stipulated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. I also expect I’ll have my opinions of time-domain versus frequency-domain spectroscopy exercised. Overall, much to look forward to during the THz Imaging session (Wednesday, 4.45 pm to 6.30pm) presided by Dan Mittleman.
