Quo Vadis quantum communication: How do commercial and marked demands shape the field?

This workshop addresses the influences of marked demands on the field of quantum communication. Globally, the demand for the commercialization of quantum communication is exploding, seeded by governmental efforts and accelerated by private companies and service providers. This transforms the quantum-communication ecosystem from being focused on scientific and R&D topics towards business cases, which requires to answer questions such as: Which of the competing quantum-communication technologies will lead to competitive commercial applications? Which communication channels, fiber-based or satellite-based, will be beneficial, and under which circumstances? We want to address how this transition will shape quantum communication, thus opening a controversial discussion among researchers, industry, and governmental institutions.
