CLEO/LFW Innovation Awards - What is It?

The CLEO/Laser Focus World Innovation Awards recognize outstanding CLEO exhibiting companies that have made major contributions to advancing the field of optics and photonics through recently launched products and services.

The Innovation Awards allow CLEO exhibiting companies to showcase their latest products and services entering the marketplace, while reaching the top industry decision makers at CLEO – the premier laser conference and expo.

Submission Period is now Closed. Deadline was 2 April 2014

Winners will be announced late April.

Who is Eligible?

Any contracted CLEO exhibiting company is eligible to enter any product or service launched in the 18-month period.

Why Apply?

Winning companies and honorable mentions receive:

  • Award presentation at CLEO: 2014’s most widely-attended event: The Plenary and Awards Session

  • Recognition amongst peers at the CLEO: 2014 Exhibitor Breakfast

  • An exclusive CLEO/Laser Focus World Innovation Award winners’ logo, for use in company promotions and marketing

  • Recognition throughout the event via signage and LCD screen slides on-site

  • Promotion on all CLEO social media channels

  • Flagged CLEO Buyer’s Guide company listing

  • Write-up and recognition in CLEO Conference Program and other on-site materials

  • Feature story in Laser Focus World

The winning company receives all of the above, plus:

  • A two-page editorial spread in the CLEO: 2014 printed Buyer’s Guide distributed to all event attendees

  • A press release announcing the award and describing the winning product, sent to key industry press contacts

  • Video feature, recorded on-site at CLEO: 2014 and featured on Laser Focus World’s website.

Again this year! Every entry has the opportunity to be a winner. All entries are entered into a drawing to win an Apple gift card (equivalent to value of an iPad mini).

How to Apply

Applying is easy! We’ve simplified the process for 2014 – answer just three questions about your product or service. That’s it!  Entries will be reviewed and scored by an independent panel of experts from the CLEO: Applications & Technology committee, Market Focus committee and Laser Focus World.  One winner and one or more honorable mentions will be selected.  Entries are due by 11:59 p.m. EDT on 2 April 2014.

Submission Requirements

  1. Application, service or product being presented must have been launched within the 18-month period from 2 October 2012 to 2 April 2014.

  2. Only submissions by the manufacturers of the particular application, service or product will be accepted. Distributors and representatives are not eligible.

  3. Application must be sent by an employee(s) from submitting company.

  4. Winners are required to be a 2014 contracted CLEO exhibitor. Contact CLEO Sales at exhibitsales@osa.org or +1 202.416.1428 for details about exhibiting.

Cover Letter

All submissions must include a (1) one-page cover letter at the beginning of the description file. Cover letter should include the following details – submissions will not be accepted/reviewed without this information. Judges will not see this information when reviewing entries.

  1. Primary Contact Person

  2. Company Name

  3. Email Address (for correspondence purposes only)

  4. Application Title

Description of the Product or Service

Important: No reference to submitter's name or company should be made within the description. Included with the submission must be a brief description (limit of three pages in WORD or PDF file format) that addresses the following questions:

  1. Innovation – To what degree does this product, application or service replace or improve an older or existing one? Why is this product, application, or service so groundbreaking to the optics and photonics community? Please include information on the unique competitive advantages of your product over state-of-the-art technology/services of the same type.

  2. Functionality – How functional is this product, application or service? How well does it utilize an existing technology? Do you or your company hold, have you applied for, or have you been approved for a patent or trademark in relationship to this product, application or service?

  3. Life Expectancy - What is the potential for long-term viability of this product, application or service? In other words, what is the life expectancy before it’s replaced with something bigger or better?
