QELS (Quantum Electronics and Laser Science Conference) was started in 1989 to have an annual quantum electronics conference collocate with CLEO and serve as the domestic IQEC on years that IQEC was held in other countries.
IQEC conferences continue to rotate around the world while QELS was integrated into the overall CLEO event in 2010.
